The quantity of water that you should drink depends on various factors: the size of your body, your physical activities - even the climate- because your body works intensively to keep you warm or cool.

As a general guideline, an average person should drink 1,5 to 2,5 liters of water daily in order to replenish the body fluids that it loses during the day. Do not leave your organism to get dehydrated! The thirst is the first sign that our organism is at the first stages of dehydration. The dehydration is a very serious condition during which your body has less water than this that it needs. When your body is just 1% below the normal level, you feel excessive thirst. When you are 5% below the normal level, you will have a slight fever, while if you are 10% below the normal level, you will bruise and you will not be able to walk!

So in order to prevent it is important to drink water even if you are not thirsty throughout the whole day. Your daily and continuous water intake is absolutely necessary and has vital importance. An average person should consume 8-10 glasses of water per day. It should be consumed starting from the awakening in the morning, and then to take place at regular intervals and in small quantities, throughout the day. Besides, a glass of plain water, immediately after the awakening in the morning, consists a very useful habit. For Greece and especially during the summer months, that there is increase of the environment’s temperature, 12 glasses of water is considered a reasonable quantity. We should not rely on the feeling of thirst, because the hydration index it is not so correct since if we are thirsty it means that we are already dehydrated.
